Starting A Single-Person Business: Part VIII – Your Paid Ads Funnel

Youtube video

You’ve built three funnels: social media, referrals, and content. Now we’re adding the fourth — paid advertising.

I saved paid ads for last on purpose. Most people want to start here. They spend $500 on Facebook ads, get zero clients, and decide advertising doesn’t work. It doesn’t work when it’s the first thing you do, because paid ads are an accelerant, not a foundation. They amplify what’s already working.

If you’ve done the work in this series, paid ads become a multiplier. You’re putting money behind a proven message, sending people to a real funnel, and following up with a system that converts.

Step 1: Boost Your Best Post

Start simple. Pick the post from your 30-day content sprint that got the most engagement, and put $5-10/day behind it for 5-7 days.

Choose “Get more messages” (DMs are your sales channel) or “Get more website visitors” (sends to your email collector). Set your audience to your service area, your ideal client’s age range, and a couple of relevant interests. Total investment: $35-70.

This is low-risk testing. You already know the content works organically — you’re amplifying what’s proven.

After 5-7 days, check results. If you’re getting messages or visits for under $5-10 each, you’ve found a message worth scaling.

Step 2: Build a Lead Generation Campaign

Graduate to Meta Ads Manager for a proper lead generation campaign.

As of 2026, Meta’s Advantage+ AI is turned on by default. It handles audience targeting, ad placements, and budget allocation automatically. You provide three things: the objective, the creative, and the budget.

Create a “Leads” campaign, set your budget ($20/day minimum for lead gen), and create three ad variations testing different angles on the same problem from your Part I worksheet:

Variation A — Problem-focused: Lead with the pain point.

Variation B — Story-focused: Lead with why you started or a client result.

Variation C — Direct offer: Lead with what they get and how to sign up.

Meta’s Advantage+ automatically shifts your budget to the variation that performs best. You don’t manage this — the AI does.

Use Instant Forms for lead capture so people never leave the app. Keep it to three fields: name, email, phone.

After publishing, don’t touch anything for seven days. The campaign is in Meta’s “learning phase,” and every significant edit restarts it.

What Happens Behind the Scenes

Meta’s AI shows your three variations to different segments — different ages, interests, times, placements. As results come in, it learns what works and shifts budget accordingly.

After about 50 leads, the system optimizes confidently. Your cost per lead drops. Lower budget means slower learning: $10/day takes three weeks; $50/day gets answers in one week.

Step 3: Analyze with Manus

After two or more weeks, use Manus AI inside Ads Manager (Tools menu) to understand your results. Ask it questions in plain English: “Which variation has the lowest cost per lead?” “What age group responds best?” “Which placement generates the most leads?”

Manus reads your data and summarizes it. The AI optimizes, Manus analyzes, you decide.

Follow Up Fast

Contact every lead the same day. Within the hour if possible. Speed is your competitive advantage as a solopreneur — you can respond in 30 minutes while an agency takes three days.

Budget Framework

Stage 1 — Testing ($5-10/day): Boost best posts. $150-300/month.

Stage 2 — Lead generation ($20-50/day): Advantage+ Leads campaign with 3 variations. $600-1,500/month.

Stage 3 — Scaling: Calculate what a client is worth, what a lead costs, and spend whatever the math supports.

Stay at Stage 2 for at least 90 days before scaling.

What’s Next

You now have all four funnels working. In Part IX, we’ll pull everything together — the complete client journey, how to iterate, and where to go next as your business grows.

Before Part IX:

  • Boost at least one post and measure results
  • Set up an Advantage+ Leads campaign with 3 variations
  • Follow up with every lead the same day
  • Track cost per lead and conversion rate
