How We Use AI, Part 2

Two-Brain Business is a 1:1 mentorship practice. We rely strongly on human intelligence and empathy (the “two brains”).

Yesterday, I told you how we also use artificial intelligence to help our mentors diagnose problems, identify opportunities and prescribe action. This creates better results for our clients…and faster. While mentorship is always a personal connection, we have clarity that no one else does.

But that’s only half of the process.

After a client gets results, the process continues:

  1. We measure results from every client every month.
  2. We identify the top clients in each of the six primary metrics, and publish them on a leaderboard.
  3. We interview a few of the Top Ten each month to find new variations on the basics.
Watch one of the interviews from the leaderboard above here: https://youtu.be/i1PirE4IKAI
  4. We publish those interviews publicly for everyone.
  5. When test new variations and ideas on our mentor team and Tinker groups.
  6. We collect data to make sure the new idea extrapolates to everyone.
  7. We turn the new material into a course that helps the other gyms grow faster.

For example, using the above steps:
1 – A gym, CrossFit Albatross, reports its data before the 15th of the month.

2 – Their high ARM ($327 per client per month) earns them a spot on the ARM leaderboard for that month.

3 – The owners of CrossFit Albatross are interviewed on our podcast and YouTube channel. Their top tips for increasing ARM are reported with the others in the Top 10 on our blog.

4 – During the interview, we notice they’re doing something different. For example, they might be selling access to lockers along with their memberships.

5 – We test CrossFit Albatross’ locker idea on five gyms owned by our mentors or Tinkers.

6 – We measure the data on the locker plan on those five gyms.

7 – If the locker plan measurably improves their business, we greenlight it and teach it to everyone in the Two-Brain mentorship practice. We buy the rights to CrossFit Albatross’ locker arrangements, produce a course and recommend locker providers.

This creates a virtuous cycle where gyms get continuously better material with less wasted time, because they don’t have to guess.

This level of sophistication doesn’t exist anywhere else in the fitness business. Most other fitness business coaching companies rely on the n=1 experience of their founder (or, in the worst cases, the untested opinions of their founder.)

In fact, this level of intelligence doesn’t exist in most businesses, because it’s extremely hard and expensive to produce. It requires data…but it also requires trust. While we track hundreds of gyms around the world, our partners track thousands. Our partners trust us, and we share data back and forth. Human connection makes the artificial intelligence possible.

Likewise, knowing “the next best step” isn’t enough. A mentor must still make the knowledge actionable and–the hard part!–get the business owner to act.

For this reason, it will be a long time before any artificial intelligence or “bot” will replace humans as mentors as coaches. But we can use the technology NOW to supercharge mentorship by making opportunities more obvious; prescriptions more powerful; and results more rapid.
